Who Else Wants a Classic Knife Set?

by Tony Lewis

One of the best kitchen sets in action

Anyone looking to get a new set of knives added to their stack of kitchen appliances should consider a Wusthof knife set.

They’re known for their superb heft and razor sharp blade.

The handles give you an ultra-comfortable grip and there is even a bolster for balance.

All the sets are only of the highest quality and on top of that they have made using knives quite fun.

Wusthof has a knife designed for everyone and at the moment there are 8 different sets.

Classic Icons, Gourmet, Icons, Culinar, Classic, Le Cordon Bleu, Grand Prix II and Silverpoint.

What each collection have in ‘common’ is that they all have a different ergonomic handle design, giving you a comfortable touch.

But If you ask me there is only one Wusthof knife set that is worth purchasing so make sure to read this article in order to find out which one.

The Wusthof Knife Set Makes Cooking Fun

Wusthof  is an extremely experienced cutlery manufacturer. In 1914 they began a journey. A journey that led the Wusthof Company to becoming a leading manufacturer of quality cutlery worldwide.

This long history tells us that there is something special about these knives.

The knives forged with German engineering and made in Germany are knives that have been trusted right from the very beginning.

They have a good reputation and are widely used by the top international chefs.

The materials in the blades of the Wusthof knife set are constructed with high-carbon stainless steel that creates a very sharp edge. The material used is also stain resistant.

With laser testing to perfection the extreme sharpness in this type of knife is why it has become so popular, it means it can be used with less force and aggression.

In my experience it takes a lot less time to prepare chopped vegetables or similar foods with this set compared to the dodgy old and blunt knife set I used to have.

Wusthof Classic Knife Set Stands Out

I favor the more popular 3 piece Wusthof Classic knife set known for its excellence and ease at any level. They are the perfect knives for any professional chef or at home amateur.

I’ve used it daily for years (In fact, I used it half an hour prior to typing this) and If I could use just one set of knives for the rest of my life, that’s the one I would choose (Global are great too but they tend to be a lot more expensive). Here’s why I would choose it…

Perfecting my knife skills have become so easy with this set because of the bolster/finger guard.

The bolster gives me balance for my speedy dicing and support for my even slicing. The handles are very practical indeed. Black in color with slip resistant and seamless materials create a more cleanly and hygienic surface for me to place my hands and fingers on.

Together with the super sharp blade and combined with some videos on how to dice and chop you simply can’t go wrong.

But, eventhough the knives stay sharp for a long time I would highly suggest you to get their knife sharpener as I have been advised by my passionate chef friends that it is always good to sharpen your knives as soon as you take them out of the box as they are not always at their optimum when you receive them.

If you unlike me already have a knife sharpener prior to the purchase then you have nothing to worry about. I didn’t have one but I do now.

But was it the knife sharpener that made my knives this sharp? I honestly don’t know. All I know is that it is.

The Classic knife set includes:

  • 8 inch cook’s knife
  • 3.5 inch paring knife
  • 6 inch sandwich knife
  • All triple-riveted, hand honed with stainless steel blades and finger guards. One of the best and safest knife sets around, especially for people just starting out in the kitchen.

Please note: Before writing this article, I asked a few of my friends what knives they were using. A few of them actually mentioned that they had the Wusthof 8 piece so if you are looking for something bigger than the 3 piece, have a look into that one. My friends love it and the reviews from amazon seems great.

Look After Your Knives

Look professional with this state-of-the-art knife set

I value quality knives and that means I handwash them which is what Wusthof advises. I’m sure the culinary chefs do the same to protect their knife sets and so should you.

The manufacturers offers a lifetime guarantee and although it is unlikely that you will ever need to buy another, any problems that happens to arise are solved with a replacement free of charge.

All you do is send your own blade back to them. I had problems with my previous knives from a brand I don’t want to mention here, so this was a great bonus when I found out.

Each collection of these knife sets are superb in its own right. The design and engineering combined with many many years of experience, testing and research bring ease to the kitchen.

I personally enjoy myself more when I have a sharp and durable knife that I can rely on so you should definitely consider a Wusthof knife set when shopping for a new set.

I have found that the best prices are found over at Amazon so head over there today and join thousands of others. I promise you that you won’t regret it.

I am glad you like them just as much as I do :- ) And you are absolutely right, by not being careful you might be in for a chock. Hopefully most people are aware of this though..

I am using one of Wusthof knife set for a couple of years now. No doubt they are the best piece of culinary out there. Once I had Wusthof Classic set I didn’t want to try anything else. But one thing which I want to add is, since they are made to cut swiftly, you better be very careful with them in your hands o you might hurt yourselves.

I’ve had a set of these for years. I didn’t purchase the knife sharpener along with the knife set but after a couple of years I have noticed that the blades are not as sharp as when I first got them. This means that I will most likely get their knife sharpener and hopefully the blades will be back to normal again. But be aware that the blades have stayed super sharp for a good 3 years without really any maintanance so there’s nothing to worry about, haha :)

I went from a cheap knife set from Walmart to the Wusthof’s. I am soooo happy with it… I just wish I would have done it sooner, that’s all!!

I just bought the set. Can’t wait for it to arrive home to try it out. Will give my review as soon as I can.

Hi Clara,

Thanks for your comment.

You are absolutely right. When purchasing a brand new set of knives with super-sharp blades you might find yourself in a bit of trouble when you are in the process of feeling comfortable with your new knives. So that’s a great point, be careful folks! I’m glad to hear that you are doing better with your knives now though. And yes, we all agree. It’s a no-brainer for anyone looking for a quality set.

Take care,

Hi,

I bought the Classic set 7 months ago and can also vouch for the quality. If you are new to a real chefs knife I would recommend you to be very careful in the beginning though. I managed to cut myself a few times before I got the hang of it. Still, it’s a no-brainer if you are looking for a quality set.
